Listserv Purpose, Rules & Regulations

All new subscribers to the listserv receive the following in a confirmation letter.
It provides a general overview of how the listserv is and is not to be used.

* The purpose of the listserv is to provide a convenient means of
* correspondence between members of the Skull & Bones Society of the
* Pennsylvania State University.  This includes members of any status
* (active, associate, honorary, or alumni.) As per Penn State
* regulations, this list can not and will not be used for circulation of
* any of the following: spam, personal flaming, junk mail, chain letters,
* jokes, or any other forwarded material.  The list owners reserve the
* right to monitor the list and take action to maintain the above rules.

IMPORTANT: This list is confidential. You should not publicly mention its
existence, or forward copies of information  you have obtained from it to
third  parties. Please  note  that the  "GIVE"  command is  automatically
disabled for all archive files.

Listserv Rules Addendum

Even humble leaders need some guidelines to keep them in line. Some addendums were needed to the above rules. Below is a list of do's and don'ts...

1. DO NOT SEND UNVERIFIED VIRUS ALERTS! If the message does not include some means of confirming its validity, DO NOT send it to the mailing list. On the other hand, if your network administrator (or equivalent) sends you a virus alert, please attach a note in your email stating: who the message came from, and that the message is coming from a reliable source. (no double forwarding, regardless)

2. DO NOT SEND PITY EMAIL OR MONEY-MAKING SCAMS EMAIL. You have all gotten these emails before, asking you to forward this message to everyone you know. A "tracking program" will tally the messages and either send money to some poor kid you've never heard of, or enable you to become a millionaire overnight. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN EMAIL TRACKING PROGRAM!!

3. MESSAGES SENT TO OUR LISTSERVS ARE TO BE CONSIDERED PRIVATE AND MAY NOT BE SHARED WITH ANY NON-MEMBER, WITHOUT THE EXPRESS PERMISSION OF THE SENDER OF SUCH EMAIL. This is very serious. Our brothers and sisters write to our listservs with the understanding that it is a private means of communicating with one another. If the confidentiality of the listservs is under question, our brothers and sisters cannot and will not speak freely in listserv messages. This confidentiality will be maintained using any reasonable means necessary. Anyone found guilty of breaking this rule, is subject to removal from the listserv by the list owners. No discussion. Listserv membership is a privilege, not a right.

The above rules are meant to maintain the quality of the content sent to the mailing list.

All subscribers to Skull & Bones mailing lists must agree to abide by the above rules. Questions regarding this material should be directed to the list owners.
